New M27 Motorway Services Planned Near Portsmouth – £50m Boost on the Horizon?

Big news for drivers, commuters, and road trip snackers alike! Plans have been submitted to bring a brand-new motorway service station to the M27 right near Portsmouth, and it’s set to bring jobs, convenience, and a cool £50 million boost to the local economy.

Where’s It Happening?

Welcome Break Group (yep, the folks behind many of the UK’s motorway pit stops) have submitted an outline application to Fareham Borough Council. Their proposed location? Farmland just off Junction 11 of the M27, on the northern side of the eastbound carriageway. Don’t worry, westbound drivers, you’ll be able to access it too.

What’s in the Plan?

Think more than just petrol pumps and limp sandwiches. This new service station aims to tick all the boxes for modern-day travellers:

• Petrol station

• Drive-through coffee shop (yes, please!)

• Toilets (of course)

• Food & drink shops

• Children’s play area

• Dog walking zone (your furry co-pilot will thank you)

• EV charging points

• Almost 550 parking spaces

Why Does It Matter?

Beyond giving us a much-needed rest stop between Southampton and Portsmouth, the service station is expected to create around 250 local jobs. Not only could this ease some travel stress on the M27, but it’s also set to inject a hefty £50 million into the local economy. That’s nothing to sniff at.

Drivers have long complained about the lack of proper service areas between Southampton and Chichester, especially with the south coast getting busier year after year. This development could help fill that gap, while also offering a much-needed economic uplift.
