About us

We’re not just another website about Portsmouth, we’re a love affair with a city. The kind that starts with a sunset over the Solent and never ends. Dive deeper into who we are, why we’re here, and how we’re rewriting the story of Portsmouth, one hidden gem at a time.

We’ve heard the stereotypes: “It’s just a naval base,” “It’s all concrete,” and “The weather’s too British.” But to us, Portsmouth is a kaleidoscope a gritty, glorious mix of sea salt, creativity, and community. In 2025, over pints at The Hole in the Wall, a group of us decided to flip the script. No more letting London day trippers reduce our home to a day at the Dockyard. No more letting indie cafes, mural-covered alleys, or tidal pool swimmers go unnoticed.

So we started small: a blog, a scrappy Instagram account, and a lot of fish and chip tastings. Fast forward to today, and we’re a full-blown movement, a hub for locals, newcomers, and salty-haired dreamers who believe Portsmouth deserves its moment in the sun (even if that sun is peeking through rainclouds).

We We Do

We’re not here to regurgitate Google Maps. Here’s how we dig deeper:

  • Deep Dive Neighbourhood Profiles: Ever wondered why Southsea feels like a village? Or which Gosport coffee shop does latte art of submarines? We’ve got maps, myths, and mumblings from locals.

  • Undercover Reviews: We send incognito teams to test tourist traps and hype hidden spots. Is that new “artisanal” bakery worth the queue? We’ll tell you with a side of sass.

  • Local Legends Series: From the fisherman who’s manned Southsea Castle’s crab shack for 30 years to the punk band hosting gigs in a converted WWII bunker we amplify the voices shaping Pompey’s soul.

Event Alchemy

Our Instagram isn’t just pretty sunsets (okay, fine, it’s mostly sunsets). We document:

  • Secret Art: Like the tiny crocheted octopi tied to Gosport ferry railings.

  • Seasonal Magic: Where to find the city’s best autumn leaf piles, Christmas light displays, or spring cherry blossoms.

  • Community Wins: When a local teen opens a plant shop or a charity hits a fundraising goal? We’re the first to throw confetti.

  • Follow the Trails: Grab our “Spice Island Secret Stairs” walking guide or our “Chips & Champagne” waterfront date night itinerary.

  • Become a Tipster: Know a hairdresser. Do you know who does punk rock pixie cuts? A park with off-leash sausage dog meetups? DM us, and we’ll investigate.

  • Shop Small with Us: Every month, we partner with independent businesses for giveaways, discounts, and pop-ups

    .

Together, let’s make sure the world knows:
Portsmouth isn’t just a port. It’s a living, breathing, slightly rain drenched masterpiece. lly.

Portsmouth isn’t perfect. The potholes on Elm Grove could swallow a Mini Cooper. The seagulls are psychopaths. But this city has a way of getting under your skin in the best way.

We’re here because…

  • Small Businesses Are Superheroes: That family-run deli that survived COVID? The tattoo artist inking nautical sleeves for sailors? They’re our lifelines.

  • History Isn’t Dead Here: It’s in the creak of the Historic Dockyard’s ropes, the ghost stories of Point Barracks, and the fact that Dickens wrote here.

  • Community Beats Algorithms: We’d rather shout out a micro bakery’s perfect sausage roll than go viral for a generic chain.
